Service + UX/UI Designer
The Story
I joined the team as an educational advisor, bringing UX/UI design skills to help finalise the content design, UI design, and conduct competitive analysis. The concept of Identity Literacy emerged from the mission of the Organisation for Identity and Cultural Development, aiming to unite fragmented communities by discovering common ground. A course training teachers in Identity Literacy would disseminate this message to the younger generation, fostering understanding and unity.
Competitive Analysis
Analysis was conducted on sites selling courses to educators. Those with higher user ratings, such as the 'National College', typically provided a clear explanation of the course, often accompanied by a promotional video. They also outlined clear lesson objectives and demonstrated how these could benefit teachers in the classroom, sometimes including lesson plans and additional resources. They also included star ratings and reviews, a summary of the course leader's qualifications, and information on how the course is recognised by Ofsted.

Language:

Specific marketing language was gathered to effectively promote the course and appeal to teachers.
User Rating:

It is clear that the 'National College' far outweighs its competitors when selling courses to teachers.
The Stakeholders
Usability studies revealed that teachers had difficulty understanding the concept of the Identity Literacy course and its practical application in schools. Therefore, extensive discussions were held to convey to stakeholders that some users of the website did not understand the purpose of the course. For the course to be successful our suggestion to stakeholders was for the website to clearly outline how it would directly benefit pupils in the classroom.
The Outcome
The website is now live and being promoted in the UK, Canada, and the USA. A positive outcome is that Berkeley University in California is planning to utilise the course, along with a group of headteachers in the UK. However, further testing and iteration are needed in the future to fine-tune the website, including their current explanatory video, which requires a more professional style.
Consequently, I was asked to join the design team working on the Stroud Commons project.
